Escuela Libre

La Escuela Libre is a pedagogical research and action project born from the desire to delve deeper into artistic production processes as a means of generating knowledge and fostering meaningful learning.

Due to its nature, the project has evolved into a collective exercise, intersecting with other initiatives such as La Morgue [galería], Lxs Olvidadxs, Calzonudo, and [d.u.d.a.].

La Escuela Libre serves as both a space and a moment where participants take control of their self-directed learning processes and share knowledge with others. This platform has demonstrated that through artistic processes, we can rebuild our communities and heal the wounds caused by capitalism, corrupt practices in local art institutions, and the lack of alternative production pathways for artists in Aguascalientes. Additionally, La Escuela Libre has become a reference point within the local community for artists interested in creating independent, anarchist, and self-managed projects.

La Escuela Libre implements community practices that include communal meals, collective painting sessions, and, most notably, activist actions and political demonstrations in public spaces, reclaiming these areas as platforms for expression and social change.

La Escuela Libre is an anti-racist, anti-speciesist space that welcomes children and encourages participants of all ages, ethnicities, and identities to share, discuss, and engage in dialogue about topics such as art, politics, social issues, and cultural phenomena.

We believe that contemporary artistic practices can facilitate and mediate collective and community production processes while promoting political engagement and activism as integral aspects of our lives. These practices guide us toward more conscious, responsible ways of observing our existence and acting as citizens and individuals within the global context.
